Bronze Sculpture - Arcy Art Original Oil Paintings Art Dictionary

Bronze Sculpture
A Bronze Sculpture is a sculpture that is cast in bronze and is often simply called a "bronze". The casting of a bronze sculpture is a specialized skill and there are different casting processes that may be used including lost-wax casting, sand casting and centrifugal casting.

For a large bronze sculpture the artist will usually start with small studies to get the pose and proportions right. From these study models an intermediate sized model is made with all the final details included. Measuring devices are used to create an armature for the structural support of a full size temporary piece. Plaster, clay or other materials are used to fill in and complete the full size model from which the cast will be made. After the bronze sculpture is cast and polished, various corrosive materials may be applied to form a patina.
