Linocut - Arcy Art Original Oil Paintings Art Dictionary

Linocut
Linocut is a printmaking technique in art where a sheet of linoleum is used as the relief surface. The image or design is cut into the linoleum with the uncut areas forming a reverse image of the parts to show printed. The cut areas are usually removed from the backing and the sheet is inked with a roller and impressed onto paper or fabric. As in woodcut, linocuts can be made in colour by using a different block for each colour.

Some notable artists who used linocut techniques in their artwork include Irving Amen, Valenti Angelo, Walter Inglis Anderson, Sybil Andrews, George Baselitz, Angel Botello, Carlos Cortez, Stanley Donwood, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Ken Sprague and Folly Cove Designers.
