The Africa Centre - South African Art News
A New York architectural firm was awarded the contract to design the Africa Centre for artistic production and performance situated on the Spier Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The firm received the contract as the winner of the Southbank Architectural competition.
The first gathering at the Africa Centre was held in January 2007 with a series of sessions which brought together arts practitioners and art scholars from over the world. The sessions were seen as a platform for reflection and engagement across a wide range of disciplines and intellectual traditions. With the title "En/Tangled Nations", the gathering is the first phase in a series of three-year research projects.
