Irena Shklover was born in Moscow, Russia in 1964. She studied fashion design at the Moscow University of Design where she specialized in fabric design and graphic arts. Irena has a Bachelor Degree in Decorative Arts. She and her family immigrated to Canada in 1996. She too lives and works as a teacher and artist in White Rock. Irena calls herself a "whimsicalist" because her work is filled with colourful optimism and unpredictable fantasy. She paints simple characters with innocent souls, with irresistible charm and vibrant colours aiming to bring joy to her viewers. Her art is exhibited in cafés, libraries and galleries in the Lower Mainland.
