“Two un/related stories” is a collaboration between Zwelethu Mthethwa’s specially selected photographs (ranging over a lengthy period of time) printed on cotton paper, and Louis Jansen van Vuuren’s interpretation and conceptualisation of these works using mediums such as oil, acrylic paint and ink. It explores the relationship between photography and painting, often lifting Mthethwa’s characters out of their harsh reality into another place created by Jansen van Vuuren. As Marilyn Martin states, both draw on their “…own un/related experiences, histories, stories, desires and dreams” which come together in a dramatic and beautiful show.
