I am just about finished with my first oil painting. I have placed the oil painting in a prominent place in my house where I can ' live with it ' for a while and decide if there is any changes I need to make to the oil painting. After that I will add the finishing touches like cleaning up the edges of the painting.

I am happy with the outcome of the oil painting and enjoyed painting it. In the past working on a painting this size could sometimes be tiresome and not always enjoyable but this painting went smoothly and I enjoyed the process of creating the oil painting.

I already have an idea for my next oil painting and have been working on a sketch for it. Where the first oil painting have a more quiet and contemplative feel to it, it seems as if the next painting will be more dramatic in nature.

I am ready and eager to start working on my first oil painting in the series of "Dust to Dust" paintings. I have a few ideas for oil paintings that originated from sketches and oil paint studies that I have been doing. Altough I still want to make more sketches and studies I feel it is time for me to get to work on a finished oil painting.

I have a few directions that my work can go into but for now I want to concentrate on a series I decided to call "Dust to Dust". In these oil paintings I am taking inspiration from Hubble pictures of cosmic dust and the female figure, combining them to create a new landscape and/or reality. The female figure is combined with cosmic dust in a way that the figure can be seen as either being formed by dust or disintegrating into dust. This idea for oil paintings is strongly influenced by the Biblical notion that the human body is created from dust and on death it returns to dust. From dust we were created and to dust we return. Most astrophysics agree that cosmic dust is the birth place of stars like our solar system and in this solar system earth and all its inhabitants were created out of this self-same cosmic dust.
